Disney owns the History Channel

Disney + and Amazon : Stream in a package

Classic Disney films such as "Beauty and the Beast", films and series from the Marvel universe, "Star Wars" in short and long form, "Toy Story" and other Pixar productions, "The Simpsons" and National Geographic - As if that alone weren't enough to make the new Disney + streaming service as attractive as possible for potential subscribers, Disney boss Bob Iger asked the question “Can there be more?” in an investor call and answered it himself immediately . At the start of the competing offer to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, Disney wants to put together an extremely inexpensive combination package that, in addition to Disney +, will also contain the content of Hulu and the sports service ESPN +.

At 12.99 dollars, this combination would not only be around five dollars cheaper than a single booking, at the same time it is exactly the price for the Netflix standard subscription. The price for Disney + alone will be 6.99 dollars and therefore not only below the Netflix subscription, but also below the prices of Amazon. Disney + will not come to Germany until next spring, with the planned start date at the end of March. A combination package with Hulu and ESPN + is unlikely, however, because the two services are not available in this country.

50 channels on Prime Video in Germany

The advantages of attractive partnerships can currently be seen particularly well on Amazon Prime Video. Since the start of the partner program in May 2017, the number of channels has increased from 25 to over 50 in Germany alone. The channels - including Starzplay, Mubi, Comedy Central +, History Play, Discovery Channel or Cirkus - can be booked individually to the Prime Video offer at a monthly cost of between 1.99 and 7.99 euros. The Eurosport Player is particularly popular at the moment. Although Discovery has sold the broadcasting rights to the Bundesliga to Dazn, the Eurosport player continues to show the top German league as an Amazon channel. At 5.99 euros, the channel subscription costs almost half of the Dazn package, the price of which was increased to 11.99 euros for the new season.

With the channels, Amazon is also challenging platform operators such as Sky and MagentaTV from Telekom. Amazon Prime Video is even interesting as an additional, profitable channel for traditional television channels. ZDF and RTL are represented several times on Prime Video. And if things don't go as well on the platform as ProSiebenSat1's “ran Sport” does, then a channel can be closed again quickly. Kurt Sagatz
