Since the nitrates, carbonates, oxalates, citrates, succinates, malonates and complexonates of Ce, Pr and Tb are in O2- Atmosphere at significantly lower temperatures (320–360 ° C) than the corresponding compounds of the restSE (500 to 550 ° C), the selective thermal decomposition, combined with the selective extraction of the reaction products with complexing solutions and the precipitation by decomplexation, can be used as the basis for new separation methods. Separation schemes for the analysis and processing of cerite earths and for the enrichment of U, Th, Sc, Y and other radioactive substances, taking into account the oxidizing and catalytic effects of cerium during the thermal decomposition of some compounds ofSE are suggested.

Abstract

The nitrates, carbonates, oxalates, citrates, succinates, malonates and complexonates of Ce, Pr and Tb decompose in an oxygen-atmosphere at much lower temperatures (320 to 360 ° C) than the corresponding compounds of the remaining rare earths (500-550 ° C). A new separation method, based on a selective thermal decomposition, combined with a selective extraction of the reaction products with complex forming solutions was worked out. This method is proposed for the analysis and investigation of the cerite earths, and for the enrichment of U, Th, Sc, Y and other radioactive substances.
