Why is Doyles Brunson's Super System obsolete?

Resting on old strategies is a thing of the past: books to learn poker strategies

A highly specialized book will be of no use to a layperson - and not only that. It is even possible that such a book can harm a beginner if he or she does not yet understand the principles.

A simpler work is preferred by many. If you have at least mastered the basic strategies and rules of the game, such as the rules of Texas Hold'em, and if you have already successfully applied some strategies and know a little about them, then there are quite a few interesting books that can lead to further success and to developing skills .

Super system from Doyle Brunson

This book is considered a masterpiece and is an incredibly popular book. The author, Doyle Brunson, is considered an icon in the world of poker and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame. He has been playing poker on a professional level for over 50 years. Super System was released in 1979 and is still a huge hit today. In the book, some of the best players in the world share their strategies and practices. With David Sklansky, who wrote the classic The Theory of Poker (discussed later in the article). Some of these strategies may now be a little out of date in the age of internet poker, but there is still an important work to be done in understanding the basics of the game.

In 2004 a follow-up version was released - Super System II - published which includes contributions from the next generation of excellent poker players such as Daniel Negreanu, Jennifer Harman and Johnny Chan.

Harrington on Hold’em by Dan Harrington and Bill Robertie

This is an absolute bestseller and therefore an integral part of the list of the most important poker books. More precisely, it is a series of books. The three parts are Strategic Play (2004), The endgame (2005) and The Workbookwhich was released in 2006. Numerous copies have been sold so far. Even the first book is a great work and if you like it, you can read the other two afterwards. The books describe strategies and possible procedures.

Dan Harrington owns two World Series of Poker bracelets. Harrington once said that ironically, many players now use the strategies he introduced in the book when playing against him. Bill Robertie is a chess master and game theorist.

The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky

This book should not be missing on any list that discusses poker books. It is a classic and standard work that every professional poker player serious about the game should read. In a little less than 300 pages, David Sklansky describes strategies for learning Texas Hold'em. This is not suitable for readers who are looking for an easy read, but rather for those who want to indulge in studying the game of poker. It is not an easy book. Since the German translation has received many bad reviews, we recommend reading this book in English if possible.

The book discusses the basics and also turns to some math basics. There are many examples and of course also discusses strategies and tactics. Although it was written over 25 years ago, it is still relevant today. Like many standard theoretical works, it is timeless.

David Sklansky is a New Jersey-born American poker player. As a 12-year-old, he got the highest score on the American SAT exam.
