Which southern state is the most conservative

Provo

Provo is a city south of Salt Lake City in the US state of Utah. The town in the Wasatch Range region is a convenient base for exploring the surrounding countryside and national parks. Provo is located in Utah County, which is often considered the most conservative county in the country's most conservative state. Approximately 90% of the population are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or Mormon), compared to about 65% of the entire state. It is also the location of Brigham Young University BYU, an LDS-owned university; Utah Valley Public University UVU is located in the adjacent city of Orem.

Background [edit]

The LDS (Mormon Church) dominates here and many shops (including some gas stations) are closed on Sundays. Provo is also considered to be one of the right-wing, politically "conservative" communities in the US, though BYU and UVU students add some political diversity. BYU students are not required to practice the Mormon Faith, but must adhere to the Mormon Code of Conduct (no premarital sex, no use of tea, coffee, or alcohol) while enrolled in university.

On the BYU campus, almost all campus services are closed on Tuesdays between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. due to weekly devotions and forums on campus.

The main area code in Provo is 801, but since the area code served by 801 is also served by a second area code (385), the area code must be dialed together with the local number.
