Can I join the NCC without a college?

Recommendations for action when using Zoom

For the implementation of courses / web seminars, the lecturer is basically free to choose the video conference tool. The software "Zoom" can be used without leaving the legal area and offers the best performance in comparison. In the Campus license became most of them security-relevant settings already regulated administrativelyFor example, the connection to third-party providers such as Microsoft is deactivated, cloud recordings have been blocked and, for local recordings, the acceptance of all participants is required by default. When using the ZOOM university accountThe most important security options are permanently preset by the NCC. This applies to meeting access with a PIN and setting up a waiting room. The campus license also contains a button with which further access to the meeting can be blocked. Furthermore, each user can make further configurations in his personal "zoom settings" such as adjusting the password length, activating waiting rooms, locking meetings or restricting the range of functions of participants. The following applies to data protection:

  • If you are only a participant in a conference, you usually agree to the processing of your personal data by "ZOOM" by clicking on the link communicated to you.
  • If you are the organizer ("host") of a conference, you must inform the invited participants of the above facts in advance. Send the following text in your invitations:

More detailed information relevant to data protection can be found in the following document:

Integrate zoom into OPAL

Would you like your students to take part in video conferences directly from OPAL without having to send previous e-mails with "zoom links"? Then check out this tutorial.
Note: Currently the interface of Zoom within the learning management system is designed in English.

Configurations to be entered in OPAL (generally valid for members of the HSMW):

After entering the configuration you can press "Schedule a new meeting " plan new Zoom conferences as usual.

Survey function

After the activation of a campus license for all employees of the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, the existing range of functions of Zoom was expanded. Among other things, surveys can now also be carried out in Zoom meetings.

The survey function can be used to create questions with one or more choices for meetings. Surveys can be started during the meeting and thus allow the responses of the participants to the meeting to be collected live.

Linux troubleshooting

For some Linux users, an internal Zoom window for logging into the SSO (Shibboleth) opens and does not seem to pass on the successful login to the Zoom application.

One of the possible solutions is:

in the file: ~ / .config / zoomus.conf the parameterParameter: embeddedBrowserForSSOLoginon: false to put and the zoom client restart.

The standard browser for logging in should then open and transfer correctly.
