How long does a package to Thailand take (duration)?

For a normal package with a DHL tariff, you should calculate about 2-3 weeks (i.e. 10 to 14 working days) to Thailand. A shipment with UPS can arrive in 4-7 working days (i.e. 1-2 weeks). The best way to send urgent parcels is with an express tariff. Then the shipment can be on site at the recipient in 2-3 working days.

Overview of transit times for Thailand packages

Parcel logisticsrTariffrunning time(*)
(partly when shipping via Shiparound freight center)
DHL packageInternational Premiumapprox. 10-14 working days
DHL Express2 workdays
DPDexpress3 working days
TNTexpress3-4 working days
UPSExpedited businessapprox. 4-7 working days

(*) Please note that these transit times are partly calculated for shipping via the Shiparound freight center and therefore partly differ from the official simple transit times for logistics. In addition, these transit times are so-called standard transit times. So they are usually respected, but are not guarantees. You should allow for a longer transit time, especially at peak times, such as Christmas in particular. In addition, according to the providers' websites, the above information is as of October 23, 2019 and may have changed since this research time.

A lot of shipments to Thailand go to Bangkok.

Remote Areas DHL and UPS Extended Area in Thailand

There are also some regions in Thailand that are known as remote areas. These are regions that are more remote or more difficult to access. In Thailand, for DHL tariffs, these are in particular the postcode regions 20190, 30140 and 30170, for UPS, for example, the regions 20160, 34110, 36220, 41130, 41280, 52140, 52230 and others. In these regions, an increased parcel delivery time must be expected and an additional fee surcharge applies (this is of course fully included in the booking prices shown on Shiparound and is not charged separately).

Attention: Parcel delivery in times of monsoon

In Thailand there is extremely heavy and permanent rainfall in some seasons (keyword: monsoons). Some places and recipient addresses can only be reached with great difficulty or not at all during this time. Therefore, weather-related delays and longer runtimes may occur during this period.

What do you have to consider when sending parcels to Thailand?

The most important thing is to meet the requirements of customs, otherwise the package will not be allowed into the country, only partially or with a delay (see below for more on this). You should therefore carefully fill out all the necessary forms and include them in the package.

Also keep in mind that very high temperatures are also reached in Thailand. Package contents should therefore be able to withstand 35 to 40 ° C (it gets so warm in packages).

What is the maximum size and weight for a parcel to Thailand?

When shipping with a DHL Paket tariff, a maximum length of 120 cm (bulky goods: max. 150 cm), the maximum width and the maximum height of 60 cm each to Thailand are permitted. At the same time, however, the girth of a maximum of 300 cm must be adhered to (tip: enter the length, width and height of your package in the shipping calculator from Shiparound, then the girth will be automatically calculated and displayed). For express delivery with DHL Express, the maximum dimensions are 120 cm, 80 cm and 80 cm.

UPS parcels to Thailand must be no more than 100 cm long and the second longest side must be less than 76 cm. The girth to be adhered to is 330 cm. With a bulky goods surcharge, UPS can also send a maximum length of 274 cm and a belt size of up to 419 cm to Thailand.

The maximum weight of a package to Thailand is 30 kg (DHL package tariff and DHL Express), 25 kg (UPS tariff) or 70 kg (possible with heavy weight surcharge for DHL Express and UPS).

How do you write a Thai address (address format Thailand)?

Thai addresses have a slightly different structure than German addresses. The address also starts with the name of the recipient (first name and surname or, if applicable, a company name in front of it). But then there is a line in which the building identification is specified (this can be a house number, for example, but is often more complex than just a number). This is combined - separated by a comma - with the indication of a part of the village or an apartment number, if the recipient has such a thing.

The street is in a separate line that follows next. And the district is indicated in the next objectives. There may also be a sub-district - then this is written first, followed by a comma and finally the name of the actual district.

Another line gives the place and (behind it) the postcode. The address ends with the indication of "THAILAND" in the last address line.

Danger: DO NOT write addresses in Asian or Thai letters, but with our usual (Latin) letters!

Sample address Thailand

Here is an example address for sending parcels to Thailand:

exampleAddress part
Daruna Katha Ltd.(possibly company name)
Priya Nguyen(First name Last Name)
34/7, Moo 12(Building identifier or house number), (part of the village or apartment number)
Sirichai Alley(Road)
Chomtong(District) (possibly BEFORE a sub-district plus comma to separate)
Kanchanaburi 71190(City / Postal Code)
THAILAND(Country)

(Note: this is a fictional address that does not exist in reality)

Ms. Nguyen can be reached in Sirichai Alley in Kanchanaburi (Chomtong District). The parcel can be delivered in building 34/7.
