Apply the manual parking brake without pressing the release button. Tighten as firmly as possible on a downhill or uphill slope. Press the brake pedal at the same time to reduce the actuation forces of the parking brake. On vehicles with an electric parking brake, pull switch m for approx. One second. When the control light m lights up, the electric parking brake is activated. Switch off the engine. If the vehicle is on a straight road or on an incline, shift into first gear or move the selector lever to P before removing the ignition key or switching off the ignition on vehicles with an on / off switch. Also turn the front wheels away from the curb on an incline. If the vehicle is on an incline, shift into reverse gear or move the selector lever to P before removing the ignition key or switching off the ignition on vehicles with an on / off switch. In addition, turn the front wheels towards the curb. Close the windows and the sunroof. Malfunction If the central locking system cannot be operated or the engine cannot be started, the following may be the cause: Malfunction of the electronic key. The system only locks if one of the following conditions is met: More than 5 seconds have passed since it was unlocked. The button on a door handle was pressed twice within 5 seconds. Any door was opened and then all doors were closed. If the driver's door is not completely closed or the electronic key remains in the vehicle and the ignition is not switched off, passive locking is not possible and three warning tones will sound. If there are two or more electronic keys in the vehicle and the ignition was previously on, the doors will be locked even if only one electronic key is removed from the vehicle.

31 Keys, doors, windows 29 Passive locking In vehicles with an electronic key system, this function automatically locks the vehicle after a few seconds if an electronic key has been detected inside the vehicle, all doors are closed and the electronic key does not remain in the vehicle. If the electronic key remains in the vehicle or if the ignition is not switched off, passive locking is not possible and three warning tones will sound. If there are two or more electronic keys in the vehicle and the ignition was previously switched on, the function locks the vehicle if only one electronic key is removed from the vehicle. The passive lock can be deactivated by pressing c for several seconds while a door is open. It remains off until e is pressed or the ignition is switched on. The activation or deactivation of the passive locking can be changed in the menu Settings, I Vehicle in the Color-Info-Display. Color info display Vehicle personalization The setting can be saved in the remote control or in the electronic key used. Child safety lock 9 Warning Always use child safety lock if children are riding in the rear seats. Use a key or a suitable screwdriver to turn the child safety lock in the rear door to the horizontal position. The door cannot then be opened from the inside. To deactivate, turn the child safety device to the vertical position.

The electric tailgate is operated by: x on the radio remote control. Switch G in the driver's door panel. The touchpad switch and G in the tailgate. In vehicles with an automatic transmission, the tailgate can only be operated when the vehicle is stationary and the P shift position. When the electric tailgate is operated, the rear lights flash and an acoustic signal sounds. Note Operating the electric tailgate does not activate the central locking. The vehicle does not need to be unlocked to open the tailgate with the radio remote control. Only unlock the vehicle when the touchpad switch or the switch on the driver's door is operated. Lock the vehicle after closing it. Central locking Operation with radio remote control Press and hold x until the tailgate begins to open or close. 34 32 Keys, doors, windows Operation with switches in the tailgate Operating modes The electric tailgate has three operating modes that can be selected with the switch in the driver's door. To change the operating mode, turn the switch: To open the tailgate, press the touchpad switch under the tailgate strip until the flap opens. To close, press G in the open tailgate until the tailgate begins to close. Stopping or changing the direction of movement By pressing x on the radio remote control or G on the tailgate or by pressing the touchpad switch during the movement, the tailgate is stopped in the respective position. Pressing x or G again reverses the direction of movement. Normal MAX mode: The electric tailgate opens to its full height. Medium operating mode 3/4: The electric tailgate opens to an (adjustable) reduced height. Mode Off: The tailgate can only be opened and closed manually.
35 Keys, doors, windows 33 Setting the reduced opening height in the middle operating mode 1. Turn the operating mode switch to 3/4. 2. Open the electric tailgate with one of the operating switches. 3. Stop the movement at the desired height with one of the operating switches. If necessary, move the stopped tailgate to the desired position by hand. 4. Press and hold the button on the inside of the opened tailgate for 3 seconds. Note The opening height must be programmed at ground level. A beep indicates the new setting and the tail lights flash if the tailgate angle is less than 30. When the setting switch in the driver's door is turned to the middle operating mode 3/4, the opening of the electric tailgate ends at the newly set position. The tailgate only remains open from a certain minimum height (minimum opening angle of 30). The opening height cannot be programmed to a value below this height. Protective function If the electric tailgate encounters an obstacle when opening or closing, the direction of movement is automatically reversed so that it goes back a little. Several obstacles in one actuation cycle switch off the function. In this case, close or open the tailgate by hand. The electric tailgate has pinch sensors on the side edges. If the sensors detect obstacles between the tailgate and the frame, the tailgate opens until it is operated again or closed manually. The protective function is indicated by a warning tone. Remove all obstructions before normal electrical operation resumes. If the vehicle is equipped with a factory-fitted trailer towing device and a trailer is electrically connected, the electric tailgate can only be opened with the touchpad switch or closed by pressing G in the opened tailgate. Make sure that there are no objects in the area of movement.
36 34 Keys, doors, windows General instructions for operating the rear door 9 Danger Do not drive with the rear door open or ajar, e.g. when driving. B. when transporting bulky objects, poisonous exhaust gases that cannot be seen or smelled could get into the vehicle. This can lead to unconsciousness and even death. Caution To avoid damage, before opening the tailgate, check that there are no obstacles such as a garage door in the area above it. Always check the range of motion above and behind the tailgate. Note on the electric tailgate: If there is a loss of pressure in the gas springs of the open tailgate, the tailgate lowers slightly and is then stopped by the system. The tailgate is then opened and closed electrically. Meanwhile, the rear lights flash and an acoustic signal sounds. After closing, the tailgate may not be able to be operated again until it has been serviced in a workshop. Note The operation of the electric tailgate is deactivated if the battery charge is too low. In this case, the tailgate may not be able to be opened manually either. Note If the electric tailgate is deactivated and all doors are unlocked, the tailgate can be operated manually. In this case, considerably more force must be used to close the tailgate. Note The tailgate may not open fully at low outside temperatures. In this case, raise the tailgate manually to the normal end position. Note Mounting certain heavy accessories on the tailgate can prevent the tailgate from staying open.
37 Vehicle security Anti-theft system 9 Warning Do not switch on when there are people in the vehicle! Unlocking from the inside is not possible. The system secures all doors. All doors must be closed and the electronic key must not be in the vehicle. Otherwise the system cannot be activated. If the ignition was switched on, the driver's door must be opened and closed once so that the vehicle can be secured. The mechanical anti-theft device is switched off when the vehicle is unlocked. This is not possible via the central locking button in the passenger compartment. Activation of radio remote control or electronic key: press e twice within 5 seconds. Anti-theft alarm system The anti-theft alarm system contains the anti-theft device and is switched on together with it. The following are monitored: Doors, tailgate, bonnet, passenger compartment including connected load compartment, keys, doors, windows. B.
